🔗 Share this article A Tooth Fairy Tale Film Analysis: Cartoon Adventure with a Sprinkling of Kid-Appropriate Tween Romance Throughout this cartoon adventure for preteens, the world of fairies is dedicated to collecting teeth from slumbering children and leaving gold under their pillows. Board-riding teenage rebel fairy Van (brought to life by Booboo Stewart) is less than thrilled about devoting his life to collecting baby teeth—a feeling that’s entirely reasonable. He’s only a bit more curious about the underlying economics of the situation: the fairies deliver the teeth to mysterious goblins, who supply gold in exchange. However, Van’s interest is piqued when he spots a goblin (played by Larkin Bell), who turns out to be not at all the hideous gnome he expected. A Forbidden Bond and Shared Threat The stage is set for an adventure with a light sprinkling of young love (even though it remains very much suitable for younger kids). The goblin and fairy communities are estranged from each other, and there’s nothing like the excitement of secrecy to bring people as one. Both groups as seen here are incredibly similar, yet both maintain biased views about the other. The fairies are supposed to be entitled sorts, given to taking anything they want, while the goblins are reportedly stupid, smelly, and primitive, but are in fact intelligent and technologically advanced. Of course, such a setup requires a common enemy to unite against, and this is duly provided in the form of a group of vicious spiders, with voices by Jon Lovitz and Fran Drescher. They make no secret with these guys: they aim to devour the fairies and goblins, and they serve as quite savage, though not particularly skilled, villains. Ideal Viewers and Overall Impression There aren’t very many children’s animations targeting the viewer group that is beginning to have early romances, but aren’t yet old enough for the content teenagers are watching instead of popular teen sagas. Should your youngster is in the right age bracket, this is unlikely to be their next favorite movie, but you could do worse. A Tooth Fairy Tale releases in Scottish cinemas from 10 October and across the United Kingdom from 24 October.
