One teenage youth was found dead only a few days following being falsely blamed of taking the ashes of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The investigation learned how his mother received a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her child. The communication added: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a testimony read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the alleged burglary victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the property was never taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged stolen ashes generated social media comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being harassed digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings heard that one young adult encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his worries", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The inquest heard from educational staff at Connah's Quay High School.

On 8 November, she "heard some students talking that the student had been detained and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' telephone and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his family said they never receive that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner told the inquest he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of social media.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the police and after his interview he was freed whilst investigations continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any agency led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
