Rob Edwards and O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they start the process of hiring a new head coach.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
